Genetics / Gepork Genetics
Gepork selects personally the Pietrain boars in Germany, in the association SHZ
The great constitution of the pig that belongs to the Pietrain breed is the most appropriate pig for crossbreedings. Its products offer an improved carcass, independently from its the mother breed. Whoever it is the female, the crossbreeding with Pietrain pigs will always offer a much better carcass grade, a better proportion in the noble parts and a better commercial classification.
The recent Discovery of a new and superior gene, associated to a level of superior muscles, and that it is transmitted by the mascle line, sends a new hope over the Piétrain breed. This gene, that can explain the variation of the 25-30% in the lean percentage, has not got an impact over the physiology of the animals and the meat quality.
The connection between the weight of muscles and the carcass weight is the highest among all the known breeds. The Pietrain pig produces an 83% of the carcass meat. These qualities turn the Pietrain pig into an improvement factor of other breeds.
Correct conformation with the suitable bony structure. Provided with short and hard hair, and frequently with a red highliht, which is characteristic around the black patches. Weight of boars: 260 to 300 Kg. Weight of sows: 230 to 260 Kg.
The main qualities of the breed to be used in the meat industry are:
- Carcass grade, it means, a high content of lean and low content of fat.
- Ideal percentage of noble parts
- Positive response when crossbreeding it with other breeds. (improved breed)

How is value calculated
The assessment method of BLUP (Best Linear Unbiased Prediction) allows and considers the genetic differences among the groups of animals and the generations.
The values that are obtained allow that the breeders use them as an information to make predictions of purchase when choosing the breeding animals.
