Porcine insemination / Breeding information

Parameters of seminal quality

Breeding information

Once the ejaculations are analised and packed in the Laboratory of the Artificial Insemination Centre in Gepork, the obtained doses from each ejaculation of the different studs, which have participated in the study, have been arbritarily distributed to 50 commercial exploitations in order to assess several breeding parameters.

  • Insemination Date
  • Birthing Date
  • Live-born piglets
  • Total borns piglets
  • Weaning piglets

The resulting values have been analised with the statistic program SAS, which corrects the absolute values in order to make a coparative analysis of the three  participating genetics (NN, NP, PT) and the average of live-born and Total born Piglets. These show that the average values of live-born piglets do not present important differences according to genetics.

Table 14. Live-born PIGLETS  Average  (P>0.07_NS)
GENETICS LIVE-BORN PIGLETS
NN 11.8148148
NP 11.9856802
PT 11.5258621

Finally, a comparative shows the results of live-born piglets according to motility in comparison with the number of doses and to the total amount of anomalies of each ejaculation from the different studs. Although a light tendency can be noticed, it is not significant since the obtained values on seminal qualty of the ejaculations, which have participated in the study, have been very good. It is worth to mention that those boars with some seminal quality problem have not participated in the study. For this reason, the tendency is not significant.
